deciles

Ten equal portions

Deciles divide a ranked dataset into ten equal parts.

If test scores are sorted from lowest to highest, the first decile marks where the bottom 10% fall, the fifth decile is the median, and the ninth decile separates the top 10%.

Students in the highest decile qualified for the honors program.

The term appears frequently in statistics, economics, and educational research.
