decarboxylate
Strip carbon dioxide
To decarboxylate is to remove a carboxyl group from a molecule, releasing carbon dioxide.
The term appears most often in cannabis culture, where heating raw plant material decarboxylates cannabinoid acids into their active forms: You need to decarboxylate the flower before making edibles.
The process also occurs naturally in fermentation and metabolism.
