daymark

Sunlit navigation aid

A daymark is a fixed navigational aid visible during daylight—a tower, beacon, or distinctive structure that helps mariners determine their position.

Unlike lighthouses, daymarks rely on shape, color, or pattern rather than light: The striped daymark guided us past the shoals.

The term also applies to any landmark used for daytime navigation.
