flashing beacon

Blinking signal lamp

A flashing beacon is a light that blinks on and off repeatedly to signal warning or attract attention.

These appear on emergency vehicles, at railroad crossings, on construction equipment, and atop tall structures to warn aircraft.

The intermittent flash makes them more visible than steady lights: A flashing beacon marked the intersection where the accident occurred.
