curtsying
Lowering in deference
Curtsying is the act of making a curtsy—a formal gesture of respect in which a woman or girl bends her knees while bowing her head slightly.
The gesture traditionally acknowledges royalty or social superiors: She practiced curtsying before meeting the queen.
Also spelled curtsying or curtseying.
