cultural lens
Society-shaped viewpoint filter
A cultural lens is the framework of beliefs, values, and assumptions through which a person perceives and interprets the world, shaped by their upbringing, heritage, and social environment.
Everyone views events, behaviors, and ideas through their own cultural lens, often without realizing it.
The term appears frequently in discussions of bias, empathy, and cross-cultural understanding: Viewing the film through a Western cultural lens misses much of its meaning.
To examine something through a different cultural lens is to consider how someone from another background might experience or interpret it.
