language exchange
Reciprocal linguistic partnership
A language exchange is an arrangement where two people teach each other their native languages, typically through conversation practice.
Partners alternate between languages, each serving as student and teacher: I found a language exchange partner to practice my Spanish while helping her with English.
The term also applies to organized programs facilitating such pairings.
