crow hop
Skip before throwing
A crow hop is a small skip or hop taken to build momentum before a throw, especially in baseball and softball when an outfielder gathers themselves before releasing.
The term also describes a stiff-legged bucking motion by a horse—short, jarring jumps without much height.
In both cases, the movement is quick and preparatory rather than dramatic: She took a crow hop and fired to home plate.
