credit freeze
Identity theft prevention
A credit freeze is a security measure that restricts access to your credit report, preventing lenders from checking your credit history.
Since most creditors won't open new accounts without reviewing a credit report, a freeze blocks identity thieves from taking out loans or credit cards in your name: After the data breach, I put a credit freeze on all three bureaus.
Also called a security freeze.
