fraud alert
Credit security notification
A fraud alert is a notice placed on a credit report warning lenders to verify identity before extending credit.
People request fraud alerts after identity theft or when they suspect their personal information has been compromised: I placed a fraud alert on my account after the data breach.
The alert requires creditors to take extra steps before approving new accounts in that person's name.
