passive listening
Hearing without engaging
Passive listening is hearing without active engagement or response.
Unlike active listening, which involves feedback and interaction, passive listening is receptive but uninvolved—letting music play in the background, sitting through a lecture without taking notes, or hearing someone talk without asking questions.
The listener absorbs but doesn't participate: I was only half paying attention, just passive listening while I worked.
