crab traps
Baited seafloor cages
Crab traps are cages designed to catch crabs, typically made of wire mesh with one or more funnel-shaped openings that allow crabs to enter but make escape difficult.
They're baited with fish or chicken and lowered to the seafloor on a line with a buoy marker: We pulled up the crab traps at dawn.
Also called crab pots.
