coxed

Commanded the boat

Coxed describes a rowing boat or crew that includes a coxswain—the person who steers and directs the rowers.

A coxed four has four rowers plus a coxswain, while a coxless four has rowers steering themselves.

The term appears almost exclusively in rowing contexts: They competed in the coxed pairs event.
