courts of appeal
Higher review bodies
Courts of appeal are judicial bodies that review decisions made by lower courts.
They don't retry cases or hear new evidence—they examine whether legal errors affected the outcome.
In most legal systems, appeals courts sit between trial courts and a supreme court: The case went to the court of appeals after the conviction.
Also called appellate courts.
