superior courts
Appellate judicial bodies
Superior courts are trial courts of general jurisdiction, typically the primary courts where serious criminal cases and major civil disputes are heard.
The term distinguishes these courts from lower courts (like municipal or small claims courts) and from appellate courts above them.
In some U.S. states, "superior court" is the official name: The case will be tried in Los Angeles Superior Court.
