countermovement

Organized opposing response

A countermovement is a movement in opposition to another movement—whether physical, social, or political.

In exercise, it's a preparatory motion in the opposite direction before the main effort: bending knees before jumping.

In politics, it's organized resistance to a prevailing trend: The countermovement against globalization gained momentum.

The word implies reaction rather than independent origin.
