abetting

Assisting criminal activity

Abetting is encouraging or assisting someone in wrongdoing, especially a crime.

The word almost always appears in legal contexts alongside "aiding": charged with aiding and abetting fraud.

To abet is to provide support or assistance, typically with knowledge that the act is wrong.

The abettor need not be present when the crime occurs.
