wait list
Hopefuls in limbo
A wait list is a roster of people hoping to receive something when it becomes available—a spot at a school, a table at a restaurant, an organ transplant.
To wait-list someone is to put them on such a list rather than accept or reject them outright: She was wait-listed at her first-choice college.
