weald
Poet's wild forest
A weald is a tract of open or forested country, especially hilly woodland.
The word is archaic or literary in general use, surviving mainly in British place names and regional vocabulary: the Sussex weald.
It shares roots with "wild" and "wold," all suggesting uncultivated land. (Capitalized Weald refers to a specific region in southeast England.)
