needle exchange

Harm reduction service

A needle exchange is a public health program that provides clean syringes to intravenous drug users, allowing them to trade used needles for sterile ones.

The goal is harm reduction—preventing the spread of HIV, hepatitis, and other blood-borne diseases without requiring abstinence from drug use.

Also called syringe exchange or needle exchange program.
