contrarianism
Habitual opposing stance
Contrarianism is the practice of taking positions opposed to prevailing opinion, often reflexively.
A contrarian opposes consensus views on principle, whether in politics, investing, or everyday matters.
The stance can reflect genuine independent thinking or mere stubbornness: His contrarianism meant he'd argue the opposite of whatever you said.
In finance, contrarian investors buy when others sell.
