conscript army
Compulsory service force
A conscript army is a military force composed of soldiers drafted into service rather than volunteers.
Governments conscript armies during wartime or maintain them through mandatory national service.
The term often carries connotations of reluctant soldiers fighting out of legal obligation rather than choice: Napoleon's conscript army swept across Europe.
