Disorderly gathered mass
A congeries is a collection or aggregation of disparate things gathered together: a congeries of ideas, a congeries of buildings from different eras.
The word is singular despite ending in -ies, though it can also be used as a plural.
It carries a slightly more chaotic or jumbled connotation than "collection"—things heaped together rather than neatly organized.
