confession of faith
Declared religious convictions
A confession of faith is a formal statement of religious beliefs, either by an individual or a religious body.
An individual might make a confession of faith upon joining a church: The convert's confession of faith moved the congregation.
Denominations also produce confessions of faith as doctrinal standards—the Westminster Confession, the Augsburg Confession—outlining what adherents believe.
