avowal

Frank public statement

An avowal is an open, frank declaration or acknowledgment of something, especially something one might be tempted to conceal: her avowal of love, his avowal of responsibility for the mistake.

The word carries a sense of deliberate admission rather than casual mention.

To avow is to declare openly; avowed describes someone who has made such a declaration: an avowed atheist, an avowed enemy of the regime.
