codetalkers

Wartime native communicators

Codetalkers were Native American military personnel who used their indigenous languages as unbreakable codes during wartime, most famously Navajo speakers in World War II.

The languages' complexity and lack of written form made them impenetrable to enemy cryptanalysts.

The codetalkers transmitted tactical messages that Japanese intelligence never deciphered.
