civil code
Private law compilation
A civil code is a comprehensive written collection of laws governing private matters—contracts, property, marriage, inheritance, and obligations between individuals.
Countries with civil law systems, as opposed to common law traditions, organize their legal frameworks around such codes.
The Napoleonic Code of 1804 became the model for civil codes across Europe and Latin America.
