choko
Pale green squash
Choko is a pale green, pear-shaped vegetable with mild, slightly crisp flesh, common in Australian and New Zealand cooking.
Also called chayote or mirliton elsewhere.
The plant grows prolifically on vines, making chokos a backyard staple and a symbol of suburban abundance—sometimes unwanted: The neighbors keep leaving chokos on our doorstep.
