chokeholds
Constricting neck grips
A chokehold is a restraining technique in which pressure is applied to someone's neck, typically from behind, to restrict breathing or blood flow.
Chokeholds are used in wrestling, martial arts, and by law enforcement, though their use by police has become increasingly controversial due to deaths in custody.
The term also works figuratively: a corporation might have a chokehold on an industry, meaning it dominates so completely that competitors can barely survive.
