chimney flashing

Stack-to-roof seal

Chimney flashing is the weatherproofing material—typically sheet metal—installed where a chimney meets a roof to prevent water from seeping into the structure.

The flashing consists of overlapping pieces that direct rainwater away from the joint, which is otherwise vulnerable to leaks.

Properly installed chimney flashing involves both base flashing against the chimney and step flashing woven into the roof shingles.

The roofer said our chimney flashing needed to be replaced after the storm.
