cheroots

Open-ended smokes

Cheroots are cigars with both ends cut square rather than tapered or pointed.

The shape is simpler and cheaper to produce than tapered cigars, giving cheroots a workingman's association.

The word comes from Tamil and reflects the cigar's South Asian origins: He lit a cheroot and watched the river.
