change of venue
Courtroom location shift
A change of venue is the transfer of a legal case from one court or jurisdiction to another.
This typically happens when circumstances make a fair trial unlikely in the original location—often because extensive publicity has made it difficult to find impartial jurors.
The defense requested a change of venue after weeks of inflammatory local news coverage.
The term also applies more casually to moving any event or meeting to a different place.
