juror selection
Picking trial panelists
Juror selection is the process of choosing who will serve on a jury for a trial.
Attorneys for both sides question potential jurors and may exclude individuals for cause (demonstrable bias) or through peremptory challenges (no reason required).
Also called voir dire, from the French for "to speak the truth." The juror selection took three days due to pretrial publicity.
