chalk pastel
Soft drawing medium
Chalk pastel is a drawing medium made of pure pigment bound with minimal filler, producing soft, powdery sticks that blend easily on paper.
The "chalk" distinguishes it from oil pastels, which are waxy and resist smudging.
Chalk pastels create velvety, matte textures but require fixative to prevent smearing: The portrait was done in chalk pastels.
