ceasefire lines
War-pause demarcation zones
Ceasefire lines are boundaries where opposing forces have agreed to stop fighting, often serving as de facto borders when formal peace remains elusive.
They mark where armies stood when hostilities paused: the ceasefire line dividing Kashmir, negotiations over the ceasefire line in Korea.
Unlike negotiated borders, ceasefire lines reflect military positions rather than diplomatic agreements, and may persist for decades as frozen conflicts.
