collapsed structures

Debris from failure

Collapsed structures are buildings, bridges, or other constructions that have fallen in on themselves or given way, typically from damage, decay, or disaster.

The term appears most often in emergency response contexts—search and rescue teams work through collapsed structures after earthquakes, bombings, or explosions: Survivors were pulled from the collapsed structure three days after the blast.
