catechise
Drill religious knowledge
Catechise is the British spelling of catechize—to instruct through systematic questioning, especially in religious doctrine.
Christian churches historically catechised converts and children before confirmation, drilling them on creeds and prayers.
The word extends to any rigorous interrogation: The lawyer catechised the witness for hours.
