car title
Vehicle ownership document
A car title is the legal document proving ownership of a vehicle.
The title lists the owner's name, the vehicle identification number, and any liens against it.
When you sell a car, you sign the title over to the buyer.
A clean title means the vehicle has no major damage history; a salvage title indicates it was declared a total loss by an insurer.
