candlestick phone
Vintage two-piece telephone
A candlestick phone is an early telephone design with a tall, narrow stand holding the mouthpiece and a separate earpiece attached by cord—resembling a candlestick in shape.
Common from the 1890s through the 1930s, these phones required holding the base in one hand while pressing the receiver to the ear with the other: The detective picked up the candlestick phone on his desk.
