candid shot
Unstaged photo capture
A candid shot is a photograph taken without the subject's awareness or without posed preparation—capturing people in natural, unguarded moments rather than arranged compositions.
The term distinguishes spontaneous photography from formal portraits: The best candid shots from the wedding were of guests laughing during the reception.
Candid implies authenticity, though photographers sometimes stage "candid" shots to simulate spontaneity.
