documentary photo
Real-life image record
A documentary photo captures real events, people, or conditions as they naturally occur, without staging or artistic manipulation.
The goal is truthful record rather than aesthetic effect: The exhibit featured documentary photos from the Great Depression.
Documentary photography often serves journalistic, historical, or social purposes—bearing witness to wars, poverty, or cultural moments.
