Outlasted the ordeal
A camp survivor is someone who lived through imprisonment in a concentration camp, internment camp, or similar detention facility.
The term most often refers to Holocaust survivors—Jews and others who endured Nazi death camps and labor camps during World War II: Her grandmother was a camp survivor from Auschwitz.
It also applies to survivors of other historical atrocities: Soviet gulags, Japanese internment, Cambodian reeducation camps.
