cabbage butterfly

White garden flutterer

A cabbage butterfly is a common white or pale yellow butterfly whose caterpillars feed voraciously on cabbage, broccoli, and other plants in the mustard family.

The adults have black-tipped wings and are often seen fluttering around vegetable gardens in spring and summer.

Gardeners consider them pests because the green larvae, called cabbageworms, can devastate crops.

The cabbage butterflies have been at my kale again.
