buttonman
Organized crime soldier
A buttonman is a low-ranking member of an organized crime family—someone who does the violent work but doesn't make decisions.
The term comes from "button" as slang for a made man who has been formally inducted into the Mafia.
Buttonmen carry out hits and enforce the boss's orders: The buttonmen waited outside while the capos talked business.
