A triggerman is the person who actually fires the gun in a planned killing—the one who pulls the trigger while others may have ordered or arranged the hit.
The term belongs to crime reporting and gangster narratives: The boss never got his hands dirty; he always sent a triggerman.
It can extend to anyone who executes violent orders others give.
