buttonhooks
Victorian shoe tools
A buttonhook is a small tool with a hook at the end, used to pull buttons through tight buttonholes—especially on shoes and gloves in the era before zippers.
The tool is largely obsolete now.
In American football, a buttonhook is a pass route where the receiver runs downfield, then turns sharply back toward the quarterback: He ran a buttonhook and caught the ball for a six-yard gain.
