burdocks
Hooked seed plants
Burdocks are coarse weeds with large leaves and prickly flower heads that cling to clothing and animal fur.
The hooked burrs inspired the invention of Velcro.
The plant is considered a nuisance in pastures and roadsides, though its root is edible and used in some Asian cuisines: The dog came back covered in burdocks.
