bulbar
Lower brainstem region
Bulbar refers to a bulb-shaped anatomical structure, most often the medulla oblongata at the base of the brainstem.
In medical contexts, bulbar typically describes conditions affecting this region and the functions it controls—swallowing, speech, and breathing: bulbar palsy, bulbar onset ALS.
The term appears almost exclusively in clinical and anatomical writing.
