amyotrophic
Lacking muscular nourishment
Amyotrophic describes the wasting away of muscles due to degeneration of the nerve cells that control them.
The word appears almost exclusively in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also called Lou Gehrig's disease—a progressive condition in which motor neurons die and muscles atrophy.
