Political movement enforcer
A brownshirt is a member of a fascist organization, originally referring to the Sturmabteilung (SA), the paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party in Germany whose members wore brown uniforms.
The term now serves as a general label for any thuggish enforcer of authoritarian politics or someone who uses intimidation and violence for political ends.
The protesters called the security forces brownshirts.
The word is always pejorative when applied to contemporary figures.
